What is the best way to begin training for a triathalon?

I’m already of reasonable fitness but I’d like to take it to the next level with a sprint triathalon (14mile cycle, 3 run and a short swim) Is it better to do all of them on the same day during training or to focus on a different discipline each day. And how about strength training- does that need to be an integral part of the process or not?
